The classroom community operates on respect!
The classroom is a collaborative place where students and teacher learn and grow together. Students feel equally responsible for and comfortable within their environment. The room is clean, organized, inviting, engaging, and accessible. Questions, mistakes and curiosity are welcome and encouraged as an integral part of learning. Students have a voice both to advocate for their own wants and needs, as well as to speak up for others. Redirection is private, and students are always given the opportunity to correct their errors.
Classroom norms are determined and defined by the students!
The classroom is a democratic place where students take responsibility for their success. Through discussion, we will create a living document outlining how we will interact to guarantee a safe, respectful, and productive community. Those norms will be enforced by only accepting behavior we have agreed upon.
Intentional choices ensure all students see themselves represented equally within our community!
This inclusive atmosphere celebrates diversity and recognizes its necessity for success. Literature will provide windows and mirrors to build empathy, foster belonging, and promote social-emotional learning.
The students and teacher share meaningful relationships!
Strong relationships based on trust solidify the community. To guarantee a safe learning environment, time is dedicated to building relationships beginning before the first day of school. This reaches beyond the classroom to include the families of each student. Teamwork leads to community success.
