Students are offered in class experiences to enhance learning!
Parents and local community members are invited and encouraged to share their expertise on a topic. This helps the students connect academic lessons with real life experiences. Some exceptional presenters have been the Director of the neutral buoyancy lab at NASA, an electrical engineer working on EV with Chrysler, an employee of Google, an Air Force pilot, a visiting chief from Malawi, an animal activist, a recycling engineer, a bank manager, authors, illustrators, chefs, musicians, and dancers.
In addition to classroom experiences, I have planned and attended many field trips.
I believe experiences are pivotal to the learning journey. They can be the catalyst that promotes student engagement, or the culmination of a unit of study. Some of the trips I planned include DIA, Michigan Science Center, Detroit Zoo, Detroit Historical Museum, Michigan Capitol Building, Michigan History Center, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum, Cranbrook Science Center, Imagination Station in Toledo, Toledo Zoo, Ziibiwing Center, Tree Runner Adventure Park, Belle Isle Aquarium, Charles Wright Museum, Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, Rouge River Factory, Meadowbrook Hall, Zekelman Holocaust Center, Dinosaur Hill, Stoney Creek Nature Center, and theater performances at the Opera House, Macomb Performing Arts Center, and the Fox.
